Carnival a tribute to the needy and caring folks
MALAYSIA’S Tourism ambassador Michael Wong Guang Liang will be the star attraction at the Chinese New Year carnival in Klang Valley on Feb 16.
Organised by SP Setia Bhd, the Taiwan-based Malaysian singer will be entertaining the disabled, orphans and senior citizens namely from the Ti-Ratana Welfare Society and D2D Services, a non-profit organisation for the disabled.
Themed “SP Setia Cares - Michael Wong Sings for Unsung Heroes”, the carnival will be held at the Setia Eco Park to honour the underprivileged and those who had selflessly devoted their time and energy to the less fortunate over the years.
Wong will also entertain the crowd at Setia Pearl Island, Penang on Feb 15.
Setia Eco Park Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Koe Peng Kang said that their unsung heroes are those who had tended to the less fortunate over the years in various homes.
“Their behind-the-scenes contributions to brighten the lives of the less fortunate are often overlooked by the society.
“But these are the people the society needs because their willingness comes straight from their hearts,” Koe said.
The carnival, scheduled to start at 6pm will feature performances by The Three Sisters, the Malaysian Drum Symphony and the Magic Box Illusion before Wong appears on stage.
Down South, SP Setia will be organising a charity carnival themed “Setiahomes-Recycle with Love” on Feb 17 in Johor.
Aimed to create awareness about the importance of preserving the environment through recycling, the public are welcome to bring their recyclables such as plastic and paper in exchange for the carnival’s free tickets.
The money collected from the recycled items will be donated to charity homes and NGOs such as the Kiwanis Club and the National Kidney Foundation.
Other attractions include an acrobatic troupe, the 24 Seasons Drum and the appearance of the God of Prosperity and a fireworks display.
